Petoskey at a Glance
Located on the shores of Lake Michigan's Little Traverse Bay, Petoskey is a
year-round destination that is also home to North
Central Michigan University. Both visitors and locals alike appreciate the
city's many attractions, including recreational areas, historical sites and
annual events. Outdoor enthusiasts adore the 300-acre Petoskey
State Park, where a sandy beach and two campgrounds are found. Swimming,
cross-country skiing and metal detecting are popular activities in this park.
Located just two miles northeast of Petoskey, visitors appreciate the historic
village of Bay View. This National Historic Landmark features over 400 Victorian-era
homes that resemble gingerbread houses. Children are attracted to the SEE-North
Exploration Center, which features interactive exhibits relating to Northern
Michigan's habitat, animals and plants. Every August, Petoskey is bustling during
the annual six-day Emmet
County Fair, which features a carnival, food vendors and livestock displays.
